This is a pattern for an easy dreadlocks band. Warm and comfortable, it’s ideal for colder days. I created it for myself, as I couldn’t find anything suitable – big enough to hold all of my dreads. Also, why would I want to hide them that way? I didn’t want my head to get cold but I still wanted everyone to be able to see my amazing dreads! So here’s a solution.

Band size: head’s circumference 55 cm (22″), width when lying down approximately 27 cm (11″), length 22 cm (9″). It will stretch to fit the head.
What you will need:
- super bulky yarn in one color – I used Drops Andes light red 3755
- circular needle 8 mm – 11US – 0UK
- marker
- round counter
- yarn needle
- elastic thread
Symbols:
- rnd – round
- k – knit
- p – purl
- k2tog – knit 2 stitches together
Pattern:
Cast on 64 stitches, join your work in round, use marker or a piece of different color yarn to mark the beginning of the round.
Rnd. 1. *2k, 2p, repeat from * until end of round
Rnd. 2. – Rnd. 12. the same as Rnd. 1.
Rnd. 13. *1k, 1p, repeat from * until end of round
Rnd. 14. the same as Rnd. 13.
Rnd. 15. *1p, 1k, repeat from * until end of round
Rnd. 16. the same as Rnd. 15.
Rnd. 17. *1k, 1p, repeat from * until end of round
Rnd. 18. the same as Rnd. 17.
Rnd. 19. *1p, 1k, repeat from * until end of round
Rnd. 20. the same as Rnd. 19.
Rnd. 21. *1k, 1p, repeat from * until end of round
Rnd. 22. the same as Rnd. 21.
Rnd. 23. *1ol, 1op, repeat from * until end of round
Rnd. 24. the same as Rnd. 23.
Rnd. 25. [*1k, 1p, repeat from * 7 times, k2tog] repeat whole 4 times. Now you’ll have only 60 stitches.
Rnd. 26. *1k, 1p, repeat from * 7 times, k2tog; [*1p, 1k, repeat from * 6 times, 1p, k2tog] repeat part in brackets 3 times. Last stitch in Rnd. 26 knit together with the first stitch in Rnd. 27. Move marker to mark new start of the round. Now you’ll have only 56 stitches.
Rnd. 27. *1k, 1p, repeat from * until end of round
Rnd. 28. the same as Rnd. 27.
Rnd. 29. *1p, 1k, repeat from * until end of round
Rnd. 30. the same as Rnd. 29.
Rnd. 31. *1k, 1p, repeat from * until end of round
Rnd. 32. the same as Rnd. 31.
Rnd. 33. *1p, 1k, repeat from * until end of round
Rnd. 34. the same as Rnd. 33.
Rnd. 35. *2k, 2p, repeat from * until end of round
Rnd. 36. – Rnd. 40. the same as Rnd. 35.
Rnd. 41. Bind off. Cut yarn and using tapestry needle weave in loose ends.
If you want to, you can put elastic thread inside the ribbing to make sure it will always hold well to the head.
